Apparently, 미역국 먹었어? is a common birthday topic… and the reasons why are fascinating! So, this saying, or question when asked on your birthday, is like saying “Thanks Mom for having me!” which I find endearing as all get out. 🙂 I don’t think people in Western countries place this much emphasis on what happened the day that one was born as much as the East. I think there is a lot of respect in that regard. It’s all too easy to forget where one comes from until it’s a day like a birthday.
Even, I, will wonder about my own parents on my special day. Now, whether or not, they reciprocate? Up to them. But it’s nice to have a country like South Korea so dedicated to birthday nods to mothers. We need more countries like them. 💜💜💜💜
And Nammy if you read this? You are a fantastic leader. 절대 포기하지 마세요. ARMY LOVES YOU.
